The EU AI Act wasn't even fully in effect when the European Commission, through the Digital Omnibus package, downgraded the registration requirement for dangerous AI systems to "voluntary." The tech lobby spent 151 million euros in two years — up 33 percent. And that money was apparently well spent, because it worked.
